City of Lies by Ramita Navai
Navai is a British-Iranian journalist who has had rare access to the people and places that make up the toxic underbelly of Iran’s capital. This is a story the ayatollahs and apologists for the regime do not want us to know about. The clash between the strictures of the Islamic theocracy and the reality of what is actually happening reveals the appalling hypocrisy that runs deep within the country and its people.
I saw the author of this book, Ramita Navai, pitching her book (subtitled “Love, Sex, Death and the Search for Truth in Tehran”) to Jon Stewart on The Daily Show in 2014 and immediately went out and bought it. Here she is with a British interviewer.
